Amherst has been home to a First Baptist Church since the early 1800's. The building was erected in 1837 and was recently renovated in the early 1990's - restoring its wonderful charm. Its people have always had a strong faith in God and the Bible as God's Word.

The "ups and downs" of church life have been typical through its many years - the congregation has both struggled and thrived and various pastors have served. Our current pastor, Mike Sacco, has been with us since 2001.

In 2008 we added a part-time children and youth pastor, Andrew Tripp. Andrew grew up with this church family and returned from Cedarville University to lead this ministry.

In 2009 we became affiliated with Vision New England, a ministry that has served churches in this region for a century, in an effort to become a more "disciple-making" church. This means that our focus is more about individual relationships and personal ministry rather than corporate programs. We continue with both, but instead of expecting people to serve "in the church," we hope members will accept the responsibility of helping each other grow in faith while genuinely caring and being in relationships with people outside of faith in Christ. We don't want to "do church" as much as we want to "be the church" to each other and to all people.
